Description
Nestled in the lush green lands of Brittany and fed by 3 streams is the beautiful Etang du Vaulaurent which is very mature having been first dug by the monks around 250 years ago. There is a prominence of overhanging trees and lily beds, with each swim offering a vast amount of water to the angler, with just 8 swims on the 26 acres (6 of these are double swims).
For those anglers after a little more luxury than just simple bivvy angling, there are two swims with their own cabins which can be booked as well as a larger, more luxurious cabin set slightly back from the water’s edge for those wishing to make their holiday more of a family affair.
With carp to 72 lb and lots of large back up fish, this really is a big fish paradise.
It had been a beautiful drive through the lush green hilly lands of Brittany and as we turned into the final road/drive heading to the clubhouse we caught our first glimpse of this beautifully old and established lake. It was simply a case of love at first sight, with its relatively large open expanse of water liberally dotted with lily beds and surrounded by mature trees everywhere.
Etang Du Vaulaurent was dug around 250 years ago, but it looks like it has been there forever with its 3 streams trickling in pure water. Being stream fed, it is necessary to purchase a French Fishing Licence, but this is sorted before you go and will be there for you upon arrival and is included in the cost.
Swims
This 26 acre lake has just 8 swims which have to be chosen when you book. All of them offer lots of room and of those 8 swims 6 are doubles. The depths vary from 1.5 metre to 3.5 at its deepest with no major drop offs. Each swim is equipped with a table and a barbecue pit but no grill.
Swim 1 – Double Cabin Swim (Minimum of 2 anglers if the cabin is not rented)
Swim 2 – Double Cabin Swim (Minimum of 2 anglers if the cabin is not rented)
Swim 3 – Double
Swim 4 – Double
Swim 5 – Single
Swim 6 – Double
Swim 6 – Double
Swim 8 – Single
We urge you to study the swims on the map and have an idea of preferences prior to contacting us. The fish move around a lot and are caught from all of the swims. Each swim has vehicular access into the swim for dropping your gear off other than swim 5, but your car is still very close at the top of the bank a few metres down the track.
All the swims are secure and fenced off so that any country ramblers are diverted well away from you.
Stock
Current owners Michel and his wife Cécile took over Etang Du Vaulaurent in 2012 and from studying the catch pictures they concluded that there were at least 200 carp already present, since 2012 they have stocked a further 350 carp both mirrors and commons. The current lake record was landed from swim 8 in 2019 at 72 lb, this being a mirror.
