If it is a week of chilled out escapism you are after, then Oxmere will certainly tick the right boxes. The lake is hidden away from any road view and sits quietly amongst private complex of 10 lakes which are part of a fish farm. The venue gives a real secure feeling and as soon as you pass along those sandy tracks around the lake, you know you have escaped the rat race.
Situated in between an estate called Providentia in the west, nature reserves ‘Strabrechtse Heide’ and ‘Bultven’ in the north a ‘Keelven’ and the silence area ‘De Pan’ in the south.
There is a natural abundance of wildlife, deer, foxes, sand martins, grebes, swans and kingfishers thrive as well as the many visiting birds etcetera from the nearby nature reserves. There is also a great mix of flora and fauna which has developed over the years. Oxmere carp lake is truly a delightful place to watch the natural world doing what it does.
Surrounded by trees, bushes, reeds and sand banks, the fish are thriving real well as you would expect from a fish farming background and this is the thing that first brought the water to our attention, the stunning fish that were being bred. These carp are among some of the nicest looking you will see anywhere. 2018 saw the first 60 lb plus fish banked and that is still a young fish with plenty of growing still to do. It also has plenty of family members coming along close behind as well, the stock in this venue are real special.
The lake itself is 6.3 acre and characterized by a big variation in depth and the carp feed in all of these depths. Don’t ignore the deep water which puts a few off. The carp feed in the deepest there is as well as the shallower areas.
Arrival is 12 noon Friday, depart 10 am the following Friday.
